Well, I'm back from Pittsburg, with 2 1/2 hours of footage, at least a dozen interview connections for the next trip, and memories of a giant head, a mansion, and feathers, oh, the feathers.
I'll post stories once I've taken care of my various impending school-related crises.
I'm heading to northeast Texas tomorrow morning with Daniel Abrego to conquer the small, unsuspecting town of Pittsburg, Texas. Daniel graciously agreed to crew for me, and I've graciously decided to dig deep and find the testicular fortitude to start this damn thesis thing. I've even got one official real-person meeting scheduled—in addition to plans to harass unsuspecting citizens on the street.
I have no idea what I'm doing.
I do, however, have 30 MiniDV tapes (kindly paid for by UT's Undergraduate Research Fellowship), a bunch of really expensive equipment from the RTF department, and a progressively less-poorly-defined mission.
Pittsburg, hide your chickens. Clare's comin' to town!
Anybody want to head to East Texas this weekend to explore the wonderful world of Pittsburg, Texas?
Crew for me! I'll love you forever and give you first choice of hotel beds... Hell, I'll let you have the remote, too.
If East Texas doesn't fit into your schedule this weekend, could anybody stop by my house once a day to feed my pets? Maryann's going to be out of town partying with her UVA folks.
I know that there's some point, in not too recent history, when the world once again lost its mind—not just the usual "What's wrong with people?!"—but truly lost it. Nuts. Bonkers. Fuckstick crazy.
Is it just an urban legend that "May you live in interesting times" is an ancient Chinese curse?
"Go sell crazy somewhere else. We're all stocked up here."
